By Women for Women is an annual event held in the month of August to celebrate and empower dynamic female owned small business entrepreneurs, creating a platform to assist them to engage with likeminded, experienced women in business to share their success and learn from their failures. All of which is aimed at inspiring, incubating, empowering and growing women owned business for a shared economy.

By Women for Women was held this year on the 12 August 2017 at the Venue, Melrose Arch just a few days after the celebration of Women’s Day.  As we commemorate women’s month and the role women play in our society, we celebrate the significance of 9 August 1956 as both a reminder of the great women who helped mould South Africa and the trailblazing women who continue to lead the country forward. By Women for Women is an event which commemorates that strength by continuing to empower South African Women. Fifty strong and independent women attended the event on the 12th August 2017 and were empowered, up skilled and inspired by a wide range of invaluable speakers. The theme for 2017 was “Think Big – take your business to the next level”, the three speakers we were honoured to have were Ebrahim Ebrahim, Zaida Enver and Miranda Isaakidis.

Ebrahim Ebrahim is a Director of the In Transformation Initiative. He has been a political activist alongside the ANC for many years and has fought to end the struggle in creating a better South Africa. He gave an empowering speech on the importance of women in leadership roles and how they have shaped our society. Zaida is the co-founder of Pure Grit Project and Exhibitions management manages some of the largest and most prestigious exhibitions on the global calendar. Zaida passionately empowered delegates with her view on thinking big and challenging the status quo. The last speaker Miranda spoke about building a brand and access to new markets. She has been involved in international trade over 20 years as a strategic research specialist, Miranda is also the co-founder of indulgence spa.

Delegates enjoyed a delicious breakfast while expanding their networks, had the opportunity to sample and purchase handmade product from POP UPS that displayed product from entrepreneurs who attended the event. Pop Up product was hand selected by the organising tem to ensure local manufacture.  The four Pop Ups included locally produced natural body products form Homespun, Malia nail care impressively manufacturing their own brand of trendy nail polish, Sunburst creations using the most incredible African chic fabrics for designer cushions and serenity body care also locally manufacturing beautiful body products.

A few lucky delegates also got to enjoy amazing product, vouchers and design kits generously sponsored for a lucky draw by partner companies who are just as committed to growing a shared female driven economy.  Our sponsoring companies who share our vision and legacy include; Camelot Spa Group, Skills Train, DVR Interiors, Afro Bhan Thai Spa, Indugence Spa Group, Ten Fold Spa, Sunburst Creations, Zamaan, Sesego Cares, Awakening Excellence, Moemas catering, The Venue and New World Exhibition.

Those women that weren’t as lucky as some still got to enjoy By Women for Women gift bags which included almost everything a lady enjoys from scented candles provided by Indulgence spa products to massage vouchers and lala lips from Camelot Spa and nail vouchers from Tenfold.

By Women for Women 2017 was incredibly successful and we look forward to many more years striving to empower up skill, incubate and inspire female entrepreneurs.
